Getting Their Brain Mapped Out

Kidspiration Software

Prerequisite Knowledge:


Teachers should have basic knowledge of the operating system in their school as well as the use of Web 2.0.

Content:


The teachers will be able to create their own example of a prewriting using the software for that particular grade level and become comfortable with using the various tools the program provides, which will then allow them to comfortably use it with their students in the classroom.
Objectives:

Teachers will be able to

  1. create a graphic organizer using the Picture View
  2. show relationships between words and symbols
  3. make use of the Picture View/Writing View connection

Lesson Details:

  1. Teachers will brainstorm what they already know about the first steps of the writing process
  2. Information will be collected into one document using Kidspiration
  3. Description of Kidspiration will be given and software webpage will be shown
  4. Examples of Webbing will be given; http://www.inspiration.com/visual-learning/brainstorming-webs
  5. Writing View Video; http://www.inspiration.com/Curriculum-Integration/Kidspiration
  6. Show a working example using picture view; All About Me Organizer Video
  7. Have teachers map their own All About Me organizer using the picture view and writing view

Evaluation:


Teachers will have created an All About Me Organizer with 3 concepts and 3 extensions to those concepts, all showing a relationship with a picture.
Teachers will expand on those words and pictures in Writing View.
